General Description
Sight: M4, is a small instrument provided with a collimator
instead of a telescope. They are easily attached or detached from
mortars with which they are used in high-angle fire. The cross level,
used in conjunction with the cross leveling mechanism, indicated when
the mortar is cross leveled. Elevation angles are set on an elevation
scale and micrometer. The longitudinal level centers when the mortar
elevating mechanism has elevated the mortar to the elevation indicated
on the elevation scale and micrometer. Deflections are set on a
deflection micrometer. An open sight is used to pick up the target,
and the collimator is used for final accurate aiming. The collimator
assembly may be depressed or elevated to bring the target into the
field of view. The M4 Sight is used with Mortar, Infantry: 60mm, M2 and M19.
