General Description
Telescope, Panoramic: M117 is mounted directly on Mount, Telescope: M145 with latches. It is used for Howitzer, Light, Self-Propelled, Full-Tracked: 105mm, and Howitzer, Medium, Self-Propelled, Full-Tracked: 155mm.

M117 is the basic instrument used in laying the weapon in azimuth for indirect fire. It is equipped with mechanical counter devices rather than the customary circular azimuth scales. The gunner's aid counter mechanism, which permits azimuth corrections for factors peculiar to the individual weapon and its emplacement, to be entered easily into the instruments, is an integral part of the counter mechanism.
